The History of the Lazy Brook Townhouse Development

Lazy Brook Townhome Association was developed in 1993 by Jack and Louise Warden and was the first Planned Unit Development (PUD) in the area. The Wardens had moved to Minnesota in 1975, when Jack retired from the Air Force, to assist his widowed mother in running Lazy Brook Resort.

Jack’s parents had honeymooned in the Gull Lake area in 1929 and when they retired in 1955, they returned to the area looking for a small resort to manage. Jack and Louise ended up expanding the resort, which was originally on what was the main highway 371 at the time. They had many loyal customers but realized what hard work it was.

They first built Phase 1 (3 units) on Brook Drive in 1993. Then on to Phase 2 (2 units) on Hazelwood Drive. Then Phase 3 (3 units) and then Phase 4 (2 units) on Viking Drive were built in 1995 & 1996 respectively. Lastly they remodeled what was the resort restaurant Smokey Joe’s where they have lived since 1975. There are 10 townhouses plus Warden’s house in the development.

All who have lived here deeply appreciate their vision and help to care for the property they love.
